CALIGIRL'S COMMENT
I met Bass one day when I was on IRC back in the Quake I hype days. My brother used to log on to the XP channel with my computer some times and change his nick name from CaliGirl to DarkViper right in front of everyone in the lobby. Bass automatically assumed that DarkViper was pretending to be me, in the way of, there was never a real CaliGirl, it's just a guy all along. One day when I logged on to IRC he told me he knew I was DarkViper. I thought he was joking at first but I didn't know him very well other than saying hi and bye. He said this out in the main XP irc channel to confront me in front of everyone with the thought that I was really a guy named DarkViper (which he liked to talk to). I asked my brother to log on and we both started chatting at the same time. With in the next 15 minutes I also asked Bass to log on to Mplayer to hear my voice on the microphone. He logged on to Mplayer and brought his friend Big Jack to come along. Finally, after a day or so he knew I had to be a girl and DV wasn't playing a joke on everyone online.

After that episode cleared up with that misunderstanding, Bass and I started playing Quake I on Mplayer off and on. Mplayer had a Quake I Soldier of Fortune expansion tournament that was going on at the time where you could win money. All I wanted to do was play the cool Soldier of Fortune Mappack because it was a nice change from having just the regular quake 1 maps.

I finally had a chance to meet Bass in person when he visited San Diego to go sea diving one weekend. He invited my brother and I to go to a Padres game with all his diving friends. That's the picture from the Padres game above. The funny thing, the San Diego Padres went into overtime for the first time in years. I was there to see that, which was the first ball game I ever saw live. Bass' wife and two kids are one of the sweetest and caring families around. I am blessed to know them.
