NewsBoys' Festival Con Dios
Sunday - September 23, 2001
BonitaGirl, Admiral and I, drove up to Irvine, California to see Festival Con Dios. We knew that Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline were playing but I had no idea what other bands were. We left around 11:30 am and met up with my good buddy PharCyde around 1pm at the Cheesecake Factory. After eating lunch we went there and realized that we really should have been there much sooner. The whole entire concert area had people sitting on blankets. They were all spread out so we had no real way to sit up in the main concert area at first.We stayed there and listened to about 4 different bands that were ok. By then it was about 4:30 and I was getting thirsty so I told Bonita Girl and Admiral that PharCyde and I were going to walk to the Irvine Spectrum and we'd be back around 6:30 pm, when Audio Adrenaline was to come on. She told me it was ok then said, "oh wait, The Benjamin Gate is going to play, she's really good. They're from South Africa."
A girl? What the? Why is this band called Benjamin Gate then? I stopped and said, "Wait! I'm not going yet. It's really a South African band? I am staying to listen to this." I was amazed on how the band was REALLY good. She reminded me of Garbage but with a softer voice in some areas of her songs. The song called 'All over me' is my favorite so far. :D
We walked to Irvine Spectrum with the sun beaming on us. That was insane, my boots were killing me. I am just glad PharCyde had his car over there or I would have been complaining for days on the blisters I would have had. I had 4 of them that evening too. lol. :) We actually both went back to the Cheesecake Factory and drank those awesome Strawberry Lemonades.
Finally Newsboys comes out around 8:40pm. I had a stomach ache, a headache and my back was hurting ever since the walk to Irvine Spectrum so I was a little sick but I made it through the evening. PharCyde thinks I could have had a sunstroke from walking earlier that day. He could be right.
During the time Newsboys were playing I was trying so hard to take pictures but my hands kept shaking. I was also too short so I had the camera up in the air trying to take pictures that way. Bonita Girl kept telling me to keep my hand steady because the pictures were coming out blurry. PharCyde had to take pictures of them since he's so much taller than me. I am glad he was able to come along at the last moment that night. :)
Newsboys Concert
Just us being goofy:
We left about 30 minutes before the festival concert was done so we went back to Irvine Spectrum to find a place that was open at 9:50pm. Johnny Rocket was the only thing opened so we all ate there that night. I felt much better after eating a grilled cheese sandwich. Although, taking a sip of PharCyde's peanut butter, banana vanilla shake did kick in some peppiness as well.
