Independence Holiday Weekend
Monday - July 8th, 2002
For the fourth of July weekend, Matthew and I went out to Port O'Connor. Not only was it the holiday weekend but it was also Matthew's niece Mira's first birthday party. It was an exciting weekend packed with fishing, fireworks, food and a birthday celebration! I haven't been to a beach since last year so it was nice to at least see the water again, even though it was 3-4 feet deep most of the time. The area I went to isn't really much like California but hey, it was simply 'awesome' to be out on the bay on a boat. I had a very relaxing four day weekend! There's over 100 pictures below. On the way out...
It takes about 2 and half hours to go out to Port O'Connor from Houston, Texas. This to me was like going to Hollywood from San Diego, California.
Matt packing the car (cant see him yet)
First stop at Academy for some fish bait.... here's me (Jody a.k.a CaliGirl having a wild hair day unfortunately)
Jody a little too excited (remind me not to take pictures when I am THAT excited)
Jody waiting for Matt in the car (a stop to gas station, nice dumpster huh?)
We saw a cute little lighthouse monument in Point Lavaca (I don't think this is real, so prove me wrong!)
Beach
Jody & Matthew at Beach House
Port O'Connor's Bluecrab (Matthew found him trying to eat on a little crab)
Sail boat and Surfer in how deep of water? 3 feet? (Where's the waves any way?)
Mira's 1st Birthday Party
This was Mira (sounds like meera) first birthday! She was born on July 4th, 2001. The entire weekend she had nothing but everyone's full attention while we were out in Port O'Connor at the Matt's parents Beach house. :)

Fishing Day 1 (Saturday)
The first day was Thursday when Suzanne and Mike went out on the boat in the afternoon. On Friday at 6am in the morning four others went; Donna, Steve, Mike and Matthew. On Saturday; Mike, Barry, Jennifer and I went. On Sunday (photos below); Mike, Matthew and I went.As for Saturday, we took off at 8am in the morning. We were out on the bay for about 4 hours. In the beginning, no one caught any fish. Then after moving the boat around to different location, Jennifer (Mike's daughter) caught 2 fish and one got away. Mike finally caught one later on, and it was a BIG one.
Fishing Day 2 (Sunday)
We left at 7am in the morning. The bay was the most beautiful thing my eyes have seen in years. The sun rising on the bay. As time progressed on the bay, I kept having times where an awesome bird coming and diving nearby but by the time I'd grab my camera and turned it on, the whole scene for the picture was gone. So not many pictures were taken that day unfortunately.
Fireworks
The fireworks weren't until July 6th. There was regular fireworks going off near the beach house but it wasn't the real Port O' Connor town's show until Saturday night. I asked around on why this was, but it was just what the town does when Independence Day is during the week. That night we had an awesome view to see the fireworks super close. Matthew's mom made this Watermelon salsa. I was very unsure to try it because it sounds super gross but like she said, it's very refreshing. There was lemon, salt, cilantro and jalapeņos in it. Everyone there kept eating it like I was. Here are the photos of the fireworks. Enjoy! The nice and weird ones are bold.
Fireworks start (fuzzy)
Fireworks start 2 (blurry)
Headquarters (the right red dot is the launchers)
Headquarters 2 (the area where the launch 'em)
Crystals (almost has a glass effect to it)
Light Yellowburst (nice and big with laser look)
Perfect Porcupine burst (looks like something you'd find deep in the sea)
Perfect Pink & Purple burst (this one is gorgeous!)
Pink Alien Chaos (reminds me of something you'd see in a scifi movie)
Torpedoburst (nice effect if the burst came out better)
Wierd (looks like something you'd see in outerspace)
