Name Calling
Real Name: Jody
Robinson
Nick Name: CaliGirl,
California Girl, XP-CaliGirl
In 1997, my
brother and I were sitting around blurting out names I could use for a
new nick name. He brought up a lot of weird ones but then he says,
"how about California Girl!" I told him it was a
bad idea. I am not a model, I am not blonde or even very tall. He said,
"it doesn't matter, you were born and raised in California. You are
a true California Girl."
I went for it
after a few other people told me it fit me. I guess it could have been
because I was so silly... and down to earth. I was that 'type' of
California Girl.
After my
C&C fever, I got sucked into Quake. In doing this, when I would kill someone in Quake it would have a
very long announcement on the top of the game. This would overlap and it
started to annoy me after a while. I could see who I fragged but not who
fragged me. I figured since people
would call me Cali, CG or Calif, to just shorten the name to Cali Girl
to make it much easier to read. I would still log on to Mplayer as
CaliforniaGirl but the name was shortened to CaliGirl inside the
Quake 1 game.
XP-CaliGirl
isn't anything to do with Windows XP. I get asked this now that
Windows XP is around. That truly sucks. XtremePrejudice
is a gaming clan that has been around since 1996 and now we all
get asked if it's because we are using WinXP.
Other Nicks: Jungle Girl, Shadow Girl and Calinna
It's
rare when I use any of these other nicks right now. It's mainly when I
don't want to be noticed. Even if I put them up here, many of you won't
even remember any ways. :Þ
JungleGirl
is my recent nickname to goof off with. It came up in Christmas 2001 when my good buddy, Cyric said I should have that as a
side nick name. I hadn't thought about it before actually. He said I fit
it because I love leopards so much. And LeopardGirl just completely
sounds off. I have mainly used this nick for forum posts through out the
net. JungleGirl's opinion isn't really highlighted as much as CaliGirl's
would be. lol
Calinna
is a mixed up version of CaliGirl. Everyone either calls me Cali or CG.
When I started playing a lot more Role-Playing games CaliGirl just
didn't fit. I needed a more elegant name so I made Cali stretch a
little. :D
Shadow
Girl is a very old nickname I used around the time I used
LadyScarlet. She was much more blunt and not as goofy as CaliforniaGirl.
I was always my true self as CaliforniaGirl, but with ShadowGirl I had
to portray someone I wasn't really just very quiet and mysterious. It
was something I had to do at the time since I didn't want people knowing
who she was then. I played S.C.A.R.A.B. under this nickname the most.
Everyone pretty much knew my brother DarkViper and CaliforniaGirl so I
would play when my brother wasn't around... so it didn't show who she
was. That game was so much fun to play. It was set in the Egyptian era.
Although this game was a lot harder than playing Quake 1. The keys were
very different and it was based on power from you planting these type of
power plants everywhere. One game that's just easier to show you while
you play rather than try to explain about it. With ShadowGirl I finally
told people on Mplayer that she was me and they couldn't believe it. I
was in the Shadow Clan only a week prior of telling everyone who I was.
Then I played C&C and S.C.A.R.A.B. using the nickname. I never could
let go of this name because it's a part of me and then there's just not
very many ShadowGirl's out there.
History of Past Nicks: Leopardess,
SnowLeopard, GI-Jody, Lady Scarlet, GX-CaliGirl, and
GSI-CaliGirl
My first
online nick was used when I was 15 years old on AOL Online. It was
centered on Leopardess or SnowLeopard. Of course this had
to do with my obsession with Leopards (which I still have actually). I
wasn't online very long with these nicknames because my brother and I
just wanted to use the AOL trial period, we did get the service for
about 6 months later. When I was on AOL
though, I would mainly talk in the Comics Book chat rooms.
Finally after
years passed, my brother started logging on the real internet (not
America Online). We used a very
slow modem at the time. GI Jody was the nick I used when I had no
name I could think of at the time. It was the first time I had played
online on Mplayer and I used it for about a week. The reason why that
nickname was thought up though was because the GI-Jane movie was in the
works. I think that movie didn't come out to theatres till almost a year
later. People thought it could have been a boy named Jody. That
was disturbing so my brother and I thought up a new nickname (California
Girl).
Lady Scarlet
was a hoax I used on Mplayer's online gaming service. For those who knew
me, my icon for California Girl was a snow leopard but not with my
secret alias LadyScarlet. She had a beautiful butterfly icon I used for
this nick. The great thing about this was how no one knew who I was. I
didn't get any personal pages (side chats) unless it was my buddy
SPARTAN or my brother DarkViper. It was so nice to be able to have peace
for once when I would log on and go from channel to channel checking
other games out. This nick name was to keep me undercover so I started
playing C&C with it for a little bit with Spartans. We would team up
in the C&C games and he used to tell people I was his new hot
mama. I would get on the microphone with a southern accent so they
didn't even think it was California Girl (they were already used to my
voice because I talked a lot on the microphone before games and such).
It was something hard to keep quiet after a while but I enjoyed it so
much to hear guys say funny things like... "Whoa! She sounds
hot..." or "Man, I want to see Scarlet play versus
CaliforniaGirl, she plays C&C really good." Then the thing all
of us girls get asked, "How old are you, have a boyfriend... have a
picture" type of questions. I couldn't stop laughing behind
scenes when they would say this. They thought this LadyScarlet was so
new to the scene, not knowing I had been there for such a long time I knew
all of them. Those were the days!
GX-CaliGirl
was from me working for Gamers Extreme
for the time I did. I mainly used that nickname when we'd goof off in
some Quake 2 games on the GX servers or when I used the GX forums. As
for GSI, that was from Gamespy Industries. I used GSI-CaliGirl when
I logged on to GamespyArcade to help people out with their problems
using the program. This was mainly around the time that Mplayer's users
were being moved over to GamespyArcade.
