This page is dedicated to Bengal Cats. If I described how the cats were when my mom had them, I’d give you a LONG story. To give you the gist of it all, my mom’s two Bengal Cats loved our Labrador Retrievers and Pembroke Welsh Corgis. They thought they were cats too. Adam (our male stud) thought the only difference with those dogs was how they had really bad breath compared to the other cats. He’d walk up next to them and rub on them, the dog would lick him and his ears would go back from the smell he just encountered. I am glad we had dogs that were obedient or the cats wouldn’t have adjusted as kitten to adult cats around them. Evee was more of the type of cat that thought she was a princess. When you wanted to pet her, she'd walk away with her nose up in the air. When you didn't pay any attention to her is when she'd walk up and say hi. She was extremely pretty but a very prissy cat.

The Bengal Cats also got along really well with the Cymrics we had (they are like the Manx but with medium long hair). We had a Himalayan cat and about 7 Persian cats back then too. The two Bengals thought they were lazy since they wouldn’t play with them when they tried to pounce to be playful.

In October of 2002, I felt it was time to get a pet again. I haven't had one of my own since 1996. I talked to my honey and threw out a few cat breeds since our dog breeds don't match. He loves Boxers and I was more set on wanting a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for many years. We first checked out the Oscicat since they are cheaper than a Bengal Cat. I didn't know their nature though. I felt it was best to get what I really wanted, no matter what the cost. I checked around on the net and couldn't find any Texas Breeders at the time. Finally I spammed three ladies' emails and gave them my story on how I was trying to find a Texas Bengal Breeder. The first reply I received was from Kim at Fascats. We both got along right on the spot. She's a very easy person to get along with for being a cat show person. From then on I paid payments on the kitten and by the time it was mid December (about 5 days from Christmas) our little Nicodemus left Florida and arrived in a teal kennel at the airport. He hated the flight. It took him about two days to adjust but he's doing great now!

Stories from Bengal Owners

Cat of the Day

Interesting Snippets
I took some interesting snippets from each of these links:

ACFCat.com
"Bengal cats tend to follow their owners around (people are where the action is), get involved in what ever activity their humans are doing, play in water, play fetch, walk on leashes, sleep with owners, play with and thoroughly entertain their human companions. They are excellent with other breeds of cats, dogs, and other four and two legged inhabitants! "

CatWorld UK: There is talk about the history on how Bengals Cats became a breed.
"Their love of water is, of course, legendary and many breeders have built elaborate water features into outdoor runs. Personally I find they are more than happy being allowed to join you in the bath or shower; this can be a little disconcerting to start with, but you soon adjust. Even the hand basin or sink with a slow running tap is paradise to a
Bengal. When drinking it is quite usual for a Bengal to stand with one or both forepaws in the bowl and they often 'sweep' the surface of a water bowl with a paw prior to drinking."

Behavior Described by Fascats Cattery
”This even-tempered cat makes a pleasant companion provided he is of the fourth to seventh generation following crossing of a domestic with an Asian Leopard. Nevertheless, the
Bengal's hunter instinct and energy are beyond that of most cats. Kittens tend to be destructive. The male is reputed to be more friendly than the female Bengal, who is often very independent and temperamental, strongly expressing her anger and very effusive in her displays of affection. The Bengal gets along with other cats and dogs, but this breed's "wild" behaviors sometimes appear. The lively, active Bengal Cat loves exercise and the water. Rather exclusive with his owner, who must devote time to him, this cat can be as affectionate as any other. The Bengal has a quiet voice. Care is easy.”

Bengal Character (personality)
”In summary, Bengals have very engaging, energetic, loving characters and this is one of the main reasons they are wonderful pets. Their character would not make them ideal pets for someone who wants a quiet, low key companion, but makes them amazing pets for people who want a more ‘dog-like’ member of the family, along the same lines as oriental cats, but with many special features that make them unique and rewarding pets.”
