Nicodemus' Vocabulary

Nicodemus knows various words, which makes things a lot easier with communication since he's a cat. Below you will find words he currently knows at 8 months. I'll add more words if he learns anymore of them.

Food = Runs to the kitchen next to food bowl...

Treat = Runs to area where we keep his treats (on top of microwave)

Ice = He trots to the fridge. I used to put ice in his bowl so he loves dunking his paw in the water bowl to dig it out. Then it gets on the floor in the kitchen as he chases it around. The only problem is once it melts, I always end up walking into it with my socks on. So now if he REALLY wants ice, I throw it in the bathtub. He plays in there until it melts.

Look = Means he can look out the window. He just runs to the window, and can look out of it. He always wants the window open though, so he'll yowl until I do. He's an official bird and people watcher.

Kisses = He'll have this funny look on his face if I say this word. He squints and gives a sweet expression.  I didn’t think he knew this word until my honey said kisses to Nicodemus one day. He said "Jody... he knows what kisses means, he put his head forward waiting for me to kiss him."

Outside = His favorite word of all. Normally it either means he can walk outside on the balcony for a little while, or I'll take him for a walk on the harness. He gets so upset during the day when he really wants to go outside and its raining. He desires to go outside mostly when it rains for some reason. I think it's the Asian leopard in him... because they love water.

Seepies = I have said this to him since he was a kitten but never thought  he would catch on to what it meant. I normally didn’t let him in the bedroom at night because he runs around and I couldnt sleep. So with time, I knew I would gradually allow him to sleep in bed again like he did when he first came home.  So every night since I got him I would always kiss him on the head Nicodemus, you go seepies then I would close the door and go to sleep for hours. He knew once that alarm went off it meant I would get up so the first alarm (before the snoozes thereafter) would have him yowling at the door. He wanted breakfast.  Well, just this past week April 2003, I have gradually been letting him sleep in the bedroom. Last night he was waiting for me to go to bed as normal but I stayed up later. He was in the bedroom sleeping, but came over to sit on my lap. I said ahh, you want to go seepies? This being 4am in the morning by then... he burrowed his head in my arm. Hehehe so cute.

Play = He'll look for a toy... which is normally his favorite fishing toy at this time.

Be Nice = When he gets too rough, I'll say that and he'll remove his claws, or stop biting. He nips only when handled roughly... like my guy friends like to rough him up sometimes.

Just a second = Mommy is going to delay from what he wants but he'll eventually get it.

Up: When I give him treats sometimes I'll have him stand to get it. It also means to get up on the couch, seat or bed.

Come here: You know... get your bootah of here.

Out and Off:  Means either to get off the counter or get out of the cabinet he just crawled into... bad!

Other Words: And of course.. he knows what 'No' means, Baby Boy, 'Good Boy'.. and 'bad'...
