Question 1:
With fireworks bursting near where you live, do
you normally drive to your favorite location to view them or do
you change your scenery each year?
[Cromwell]:
When it comes to the forth of July fireworks shows I prefer to
battle the large crowds at an amusement park rather than a
local event. I can’t stand being stuck for an hour plus trying
to leave a mall or dock after a fireworks show. As beautiful
as these local displays may be in humble opinion it’s just not
worth it.
[Trillian]:
This year is very cool because we should have a spectacular
view from our apartment (24th floor right near the space
needle with a view of Lake Union here in Seattle). Other
years, we kind of have a toss-up going.
[Cerealkilla]:
I make my own fireworks scene, illegal in all known countries
without a permit of course. =)
[Stayne]:
It has a habit of changing
from place to place each year as I have yet to form a
tradition with anyone in regards to locale.
[Pookie]:
I change my scenery every year. =)
[Gloucester]:
I like finding different places each year since I'm still
young. It sucks when you're driving along looking for a nice
place, and you notice that the fireworks started without you!
[Tapper]: I live in
Texas, and fireworks are still legal here. So about 6 or 7 of
us all pitch in, and buy a truckload of rockets, crackers, and
a few homemade loudenboomers. We all go out to a friends ranch
in the country, and spend the evening making our own show!
- Tapper [Clan Leader, Carnage Cowboys]
[Peach]: My family and
I go to Florida to stay with my in-laws for the week of July
4th and we set our own off.
[QuaziModem]: I
rarely go to an actual fireworks show. I think in my entire
life that I can recall, I've only been to two shows. One was
at the Kansas Jayhawk's football stadium and another time at
the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Typically, we'd usually just drive out
to that area where the fireworks show is at, which typically
has a picnic area or park where we'd just throw out a blanket
and watch the show. :)
[Shades]: There is only
1 place here that people can view the fireworks display, and
that's by the river. Since it's a major thing here in my small
city, that's the only place I would go to watch it because of
the crowd.
[Rogue]: The
scenery generally changes from year to year since there are so
many places to go see fireworks and the people I go with
influence where I go too.
[Grind]:
Xband drives to the best party on the
west coast, RenoLAN, hosted by Rasta. Live bands, DJs, LAN,
T1, and drunken goodness.
[Wormburner]:
Usually I'm working and miss
the fireworks. If I do have off most years I've just watched
local fireworks.
Question 2: Are you the adventurous type to sit on the roof of a
house to see the fireworks or do you like have them so close
above you that they hurt your ears?
[Cromwell]:
I never really liked sitting on the roof
to watch the fireworks. I’ve had many opportunities in my life
time and really didn’t see the advantage. Unless of course
that was the only way you could see them because of trees or
low flying aircraft blocking my view. I prefer a relaxing
chair and a nice refreshing glass of lemonade. Oh yah, and my
best girl at my side. (Lumber jack song begins)
[Trillian]:
While it's cool to catch an impromptu fireworks display, it's
not really worth it to me if you can't hear the cannons
shooting off the shells... and if you can't hear the
explosions.
[Cerealkilla]:
I'm all about as close as possible,
nothing like feeling the BOOM throughout your body.
[Stayne]:
Both. I greatly enjoy
'feeling' the booms and loud pops of professional fireworks,
but at the same time, if there are people over (as there will
be this year), it can be fun to perch ourselves on the roof.
[Pookie]: I'd rather sit on the roof.
[Gloucester]:
I would prefer to get a nice view from
the top of a building. Less neck cramps that way.
[Tapper]: I like
to have them so close. I have to light them myself.
:)
[Peach]: I have done
both but I prefer to sit on the roof and watch.
[QuaziModem]:
Heheh...
I used to be afraid of the loud noise from fireworks, which is
probably the reason why I've rarely made an effort to go see
fireworks shows. ;) But ironically, I'd still go with
family and/or friends to drive up as close as we could get to
the show to watch it. Dunno... call it peer pressure. :) I'm
not so much afraid of them now. For the past 3-5 years, I've
actually appreciated them more and more.
[Shades]: Never tried
the roof, never said I wasn't going to. Thanks for the tip :)
[Rogue]:
I'm adventurous, so I go for the vantage point. Tree, roof,
whatever ... the higher the better.
[Grind]:
Sit in the backyard, watching the
fireworks go off, and having handiman get frostbite on his
feet!
[Wormburner]:
I used to watch
fireworks on top of my Dad's van, as a kid.
[Demolitionman]: I like being
close to them, without a doubt.
Question 3: When I think about
4th of July growing up, it was
always about root beer floats. Is there a favorite food or drink
you most desire mainly during fourth of July?
[Cromwell]:
Wow. Me too! Root Beer floats pops right
into my head. However, we referred to them as Black Cows. I
guess it’s that German side of me. Food? Who needs food when
you’ve got Root Beer floats. Ahhhh I mean Black Cows!!!
[Trillian]:
Birthday cake. :) Hey, what can I say. It's my birthday and I
admit that I associate the 4th with birthday cake.
[Cerealkilla]:
Coke mixed with a mouth full of
pop rocks (candy)!
[Stayne]:
Not really. July 4th traditions escape
me for the time being, so I suppose anything Italian along
with a beer or two...
[Pookie]: Corn on the cob.
[Gloucester]:
Hmm, root beer floats sound good. :) I
always liked barbeque during the 4th. I'm partial to kielbasa
or other types of fine BBQ sausage.
[Tapper]: Hey -
I'm Texan. Bar-B-Q beef, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad,
cokes and beer. We usually have a couple of dewberry cobblers
with homemade vanilla ice cream (the kind you have to crank).
Doesn't get much better than that!
[Peach]: For me growing
up it was all about the fireworks and what cool stuff my dad
got off the army base. But I do believe my mom would make her
famous ribs for the 4th.
[QuaziModem]:
Hmm...
4th of July was more of a picnic at a park or an outdoor bbq
feel for me. Nice hoagie steak sandwiches and hotdogs with
some Coca-cola seems to always bring a smile to my face. ;)
[Shades]: Funnel cakes!
Beer! Hot Dog! Kung Pao Chicken! oh wait... ignore the last
one.
[Rogue]: The 4th of July while I was growing up was always
about the family barbeque ... steaks, ribs, brats ... mmm, my
mouth is watering already.
[Grind]:
The official Xband food is Dominos
Pizza. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Favorite drink is
whatever Rasta concocts as the party drink of the year.
[Wormburner]:
I'd have to say hot dogs and
hamburgers off the grill would be a perfect food for the 4th.
[Demolitionman]: No favorite
foods.
Question 4: Is there anything you'd like to pimp about
you're clan or anything else while I'm at it?
[Cromwell]:
I would like to wish every one in Xtreme
Prejudice (XP) a safe and enjoyable weekend with their family and
friends. I would also ask 'everyone' to not forget what we are
celebrating and why this Forth of July is so important!
[Trillian]:
Besides the fact that we've actually manage to survive through
3 versions of Quake and now on to Wolf? :D I love my team. I
love that we are able to grow as the community around us
changes. And I love being able to play a game with a group of
girls I can call my family. :)
[Cerealkilla]:
I'm the only thing 'pimped' that's
related to K9. =)
[Stayne]:
rH is looking for competent
challengers in the SOF2 realm. Check in #rhomicide at
Irc.enterthegame.com for a
challenge.
[Gloucester]:
Go Team Canine (K9)!
[Tapper]: Well, the
Carnage Cowboys are busily getting Quakecon put together, as
we do every year. Aside from those of us on the Exec team, a
good many (12-15) of our clan are planning to attend, so if
you're there, come shake our hand and say howdy. This year is
going to be our biggest yet. You can find more
details at Quakecon.org.
Who knows? If you're lucky, you can meet the Cowboys there,
and CaliGirl too. :)
[Peach]: Well most of
all I would like to let my ladies know that I have all the
respect for them in the world and love them. We our a tight
sisterhood of lady gamers always looking for something fun and
new to
play.
[QuaziModem]:
XP was one of the best gaming clans I've
ever been associated with. It was a great organization and had
great people. When I moved out to Chicago, I felt like I was
growing out of online gaming scene and made a decision to
leave XP. Mostly because of real life stuff, the fact that I
was so far away from the XP family, and also 'cuz there was a
time when I didn't have any decent internet access after being
spoiled having DSL when I was in SoCal. I just couldn't bare
playing online on a dialup. In retrospect, I can't say that I
regret leaving XP and that it was a mistake to leave because I
think things happen for a reason even if the reason is not
exactly clear.
Anyway, I figured it was just a
matter of time before I felt the urge to play online again
especially after getting cable modem access after waiting a
long time to get it. I came across a Tribes 2 clan, Rage of
Harabec (RoH). Figured, what the hay, I'll join for kicks.. nothing
serious, almost a fluke. 'Lo and behold... I experienced
something I haven't experienced since playing Team Fortress
(Quake) back with XP. The thrill of competition and playing as a
team... the camaraderie. It was amazing. I was hooked right
off the bat. We never had a winning record but the attitude
with some of the members really filled that "empty hole" that
I had after I had left XP. To make a long story short, RoH had
some drama and the clan pretty much died. The remnants of the
clan (including myself) actually formed a new clan called
Phoenix Rage. I've been with them ever since. After moving
back to SoCal, it was hard for me not to consider the
possibility of rejoining XP. They were good people... but I
owe it to myself and my current clanmates in Phoenix Rage to
stick with these guys as we all have gone thru a lot of
adversity to get to the level we are at today as a legitimate
and active online gaming clan. I'll never forget my friends at
XP... I hope to meet up with them again sometime in the future
at one of their LAN parties or gatherings. Stop by and see us
sometime at
Phoenixrage.org.
[Shades]: Red Dragons, old but
always strong. Threewave is the way CTF should be played!
[Rogue]: As a matter of fact... rH is having their summer LAN party
that entire weekend. Good times are in the works I'm sure.
We'll see if the grill survives this year :D
[Grind]:
Xband is one of the few clans still
competing strong since Quake. TEAMGAME!
[Demolitionman]:
Our clan has
so many strengths outside of Counterstrike.
We have a professional website builder and programmer, we have
a professional graphics artist, and so much more. We have a
very culturally diverse/racially diverse clan also, which
I have mad respect for.
