Jballem Interview:
Q3W Team

Nick Name: JBallem (a.k.a. Q3webmaster)
Real Name: John Ballem
Birthday: February 6
Background:  JBallem is known for running his site called John's Quake 3 site at Q3W. Believe it or not, this site was one of the first hosted sites at Quake3word.com. JBallem also helps us out on our contests we run.

Questions 1: What do you enjoy most about the Holidays?

Answer: The opportunity to spend time with family and take time off work.

Questions 2: Can you explain your current activity in the gaming community? What are the games you have enjoyed since you stopped playing Quake 1?

Answer: Maintaining "John's Q3 Arena" has taken up a great deal of  my spare time, so I don't honestly spend a lot of time gaming.

Questions 3: In what way do you feel the Quake community has changed since Quake III Arena came out last year?

Answer:  I've seen an incredible increase in the amount of interest shown by the Q3 gaming community in developing mods and maps. As long as this interest lingers, Quake3 will continue to enjoy a long "shelf-life".

Questions 4: Have you had a chance to check the Team Arena Demo yet?

Answer:  Unfortunately not. My current system is a P-166. Playing the demo would be akin to watching a slide show :c(

Questions 5: With id Software's new project being focused on Doom, is there any features you would like this upcoming game to include?

Answer: I would like to see the "flavor" of the original game maintained. It would also be nice if people who don't own 1 GHZ PIII's could actually play it.

Questions 6: What gamer besides yourself do you feel comes to mind as one of the most respected gamers? This would be someone who you felt is respected not only for his gaming skills but for his/her attitude.

Answer: My immediate choice would be id's Paul Jaquays. He's never too busy to participate in several Q3 forums and has taken the time to answer several of my inquiries personally. As for his talent as a level designer...well...that speaks for itself.

  • sheer: He runs the best site for maps since day one.

  • Vikingo: I think his maps are great!

  • Cali Girl: No matter how busy this guy gets, you always see him updating his site with maps, mods, utilities and other related Q3 files. To me, his site is one of the most successful outlasting sites I have seen for Quake III Arena. His site is also one of the first hosted site here at Quake3world.com.
