Sujoy Interview:
Q3 Gamer Pro

Nick Name: Sujoy
Real Name:
Sujoy Roy

Background: Sujoy started playing Quake as soon as qtest was first released on the Internet. He has been an addict ever since. His first forays were strictly keyboard only, but soon he figured that the mouse was a good idea and went on to be ranked the #1 Quake player in Europe by id's QuakeWorld ranking scheme.

At about the same time he started building websites. His second attempt (we're not going to talk about the first) was a parody site, making fun of all things and people Quake, and took off in the community. The archived stories are still up at his Sujoy site

Sujoy skipped Quake 2, and made an attempt to get on with real life with a job at a Bank. Unfortunately the Quake bug took over and before he knew what was going on he had signed several sponsorship deals and had become one of the first professional game players in the world (outside of Korea). Teamed up with Hakeem (Amir Haleem) and Xenon (Harvey Migotti) we started our gaming coverage website, XS Reality.

Questions 1: What gamer besides yourself do you feel comes to mind as one of the most respected gamers? This would be someone who you felt is respected not only for his gaming skills but for his/her attitude.

Answer: I'd rate the Swedish player, DOOMer, as one of the all-time great gamers. Apart from his all-round skill in 1on1 and team games, he's the best tactician I've ever seen in the game. Also he's got a calm and sensible attitude that suits him well.

Questions 2: In what way do you feel the Quake community has changed since Quake III Arena came out last year?

Answer: The Quake community is always changing, not just when id software release
something new. Quake 3 was chalked down as the unifying factor between all the old players of Quake 1 & 2. Of course there were some who complained and had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a new millennium of quaking, but the bottom line is that we have a somewhat unified scene with new tournaments springing up all over the world.

Questions 3: Have you had a chance to check the Team Arena Demo yet? If so, what do you enjoy the most about it?

Answer: Quake 3 wanted to be a fun game the whole way, but as standard deathmatch goes, it's become a very competitive game. Team Arena injects a lot of the fun back into the game, particularly if all you want to do is jump online for 10 minutes and run around with a trail of skulls behind you.

Questions 4: With id Software's new project being focused on Doom, is there any features you would like this upcoming game to include?

Answer: I want id Software to implement more features into Doom 3 that allow you to control your player. I want to be rolling and diving about in full Matrix style this time. I want to see some evolution from the forward, backward, left, right format that hasn't changed much since Quake 1.

  • Elite: Sujoy is not only a great Quaker, but an amazing community member as well. Back in the Quake 1 days, he had a website dedicated to Quake World he always kept the public up with the latest Quake news and tips.

After Q1 came Q2 and Sujoy continued to keep fans up to date on his latest 'goings on'. Including Suj's 'Quake CV'. As well as posting useful information on Quaking in the UK.

Unfortunatly, Sujoy recently took down his last website, featuring his Q3 happenings, including newspaper, magazine articles and even mpegs of his TV apearances.

Now, Sujoy is working with his other clan 9 members on a community website XS reality (www.xsreality.com) in which Suj and the rest of clan 9 keep everyone notified on the latest news in the gaming community
