Turbanator Interview:
Q3W Team

Nick Name: Turbanator
Real Name: Raj Singh
Birthday:
June 8

Background:  Turbanator is our main guy for the Discussion Forum. He does everything from managing to moderating. When he's not figuring out new things that can enhance the forums, he can usually be found in the #w00t! channel on IRC at irc.enterthegame.com.

Questions 1: What do you enjoy most about the Holidays?

Answer: What isn't there to like?  Tons of food, tons of laughs, tons of everything.  Tis the season to be spoiled! =D

Questions 2:Can you explain your current activity in the gaming community? What are the games you have enjoyed since you stopped playing Quake 1?

Answer: Quake II CTF was my first gaming... addiction?  Cost me many many £££££s in phone calls dialling up for a quick game... which usually lasted a few hours =D  Final Fantasy VII was also VERY big for me, loved that game, and was damn good at it too ;)  Final Fantasy IX is the same, love that game, amazing work from SquareSoft again.  Quake III Arena of course was another one of my fav games, bought it mainly for the CTF, but ended up hating the CTF, and playing 1v1 to death.  My dislike of id CTF lead me to the CCTF mod team, and my major other activities in the gaming communities include Quaking, adminning CTF matches at the Savage Leagues (Europe) and of course Q3W (Which I would have never visited if it wasn't for my friend OOZE aka Zaf).  I also lead my own clan (Khalsa / =KLS= ) and run a LAN gaming society at my school.

Questions 3: In what way do you feel the Quake community has changed since Quake III Arena came out last year?

Answer:  For me... it's expanded, a lot, because of the increasing number of gaming websites (such as Q3W), it brings Quakers/Gamers from all over the world to a central meeting point, which was never there for me in my Q2 days, and certainly not in my Q1 days.  Quaking is no longer finding a single server and hanging out there and talking to other server regulars mid-game, there's a lot more community involvement with <p1mp>forums</p1mp>, chat rooms (though they have always been there, they're much more active now), and other communities developing around games.  This also has helped me develop my game more, and made games more social (rather than the old "Hardcore" gibbin sessions with no fun and just fight! fight! fight!)

Questions 4: Have you had a chance to check the Team Arena Demo yet?

Answer: Yup... Speed... feels like Quake 2 CTF... but without the grapple.  Nice =)  Love the powerups (though they need their balancing addressing), and it "feels" like CTF again.  Looks pweety too =D

Questions 5: With id Software's new project being focused on Doom, is there any features you would like this upcoming game to include?

Answer: Oh... hmm... *thinks*..perfect features in the UI, I know they worked heavily on them in TA, but hell, stuff like colored cross-hairs are still needed/missing, the HUD isn't perfect, but the messaging system is damn close to perfection ;)  Ultimately, stuff like that matters when your looking at playing a game for a year. Oh, and stop the cheaters!

Questions 6: What gamer besides yourself do you feel comes to mind as one of the most respected gamers? This would be someone who you felt is respected not only for his gaming skills but for his/her attitude.

Answer: Ouch... toughy...I can't just pick out one person, I've met a LOT of quakers in my time at Q3W, Savage Leagues, and even my Q2 days on the Barrysworld CTF server, and hell, it's an impossible task just to pick one guy....

  • Lady T: Turb has always been extremely helpful to me. Has a great personality and I admire his talents in regard to the board. I've talked to Turb many times on ICQ. He's been kind and supportive and does anything I have asked him "immediately"!

  • chiQ: Turb's great. He's able to take constructive criticism, is a nice guy, and is an absolute trooper when it comes to reaching perfection. His diligence in improving this board is incredible. Kudos!

  • Chemical Burn: I've only talked to Turb a few times via ICQ. However, I've found more in how he handles things. He does what he'll say he'll do. That to me goes a very long way. He is also incredibly talented in both web-stuff and as a skinner. I'm proud to both link his site on Bane Forge, and to call him Q3W's admin.

  • CyriC: The Turbster has done one hella job with the forums, adding icons left right and centre, making them run faster and smoother and giving the peep gadgets to play with. Turb and I talk quite a lot. I hope he knows that I appreciate all he's done for the forums.

  • Xanthates: Turb has been a big help on the forums even if he is up to his neck in stuff . Really seems to work hard on helping everyone on the boards. Definitely big thumbs up.

  • Icy Armageddon: He's fair and doesn't like to ban people but does keep the peace.

  • -PhoeniX-: I haven't actually known him very long but ive been here since August the 4th, and found him very helpful. Turb made q3w a lot better place, it did look great before, but he just made it look really nice. I love the blue, red is a bit bright on the eyes. I think he's probably the coolest mod / admin on here (no offence to you others) but I'm sure you'll agree he rocks.

  • Zorten: Turb is a nice, helpful, fun to have around guy. He holds these forums together.

  • Vikingo: He's doing an awesome job with the forums!

  • MisterBill: I haven't had any major conversations with him, but he still seems pretty cool.

  • Mojo Jojo: In my brief interactions with Turb, I have found him to be helpful, honest & genuine.

  • Cali Girl: Turbanator has played an awesome role on making the forums here at Q3W more organized yet fun place to chat away with our friends. This is the way a community forum should be ran if you asked me.

  • LegionXS: Turbanator pays a lot of care and attention to the boards, and does a good job at that. Sometimes pays a little too much attention - especially when I'm trying to hack something.

  • Atomic: Turbanator is a good dude. He has helped out a lot.

  • Chris-: Turbanator is a good bloke. He works hard on the forums, and does a very good job. I have spoke to him a fair few times on ICQ.

  • Mr.Sparkle!: Turbanator seems professional and not boring. He has a good sense of humor. Never talked to him online or emailed.
